How to make your skin lighter: modern ways and homemade recipes

skin lighterMany people desire to get fairer skin because of many reasons. In fact, a darker skin tone sometimes makes you look patchy and blemished as it has an increased amount of Melanin. Even though, there are no special items can help your skin immune from melanin, there are tips on how to get lighter skin naturally at home in a month with foods and natural masks.

Your skin shows how you pamper or tire out your body. In fact, your skin displays how good your health is, among other things. When you want to lighten the shade of your skin, it helps to find out what the culprits are first.

The usual causes of dark-colored skin are the following:

  • Genes and race: people with Asian, African or Latin roots by nature have more melanin in their skin. Melanin is the pigment that causes the brown, dark brown or black color of the skin. It also keeps you from getting skin cancer.
  • Too much exposure to the sun: this is one of the major reasons why the skin color becomes darker. The sun triggers the body to produce more melanin so that it can combat the UV rays.
  • Diseases or disorders: there are people who suffer from disorders like hyperpigmentation. Some people have ash-colored skin due to kidney problems.

The first way: Medical ways

All medical ways:

  • Laser treatmentsLaser treatments. Using a laser machine triggers the skin to peel off and reveal the lighter layer.
  • Cryotherapy. Substances like liquid nitrogen is applied on the skin through a spray of a cotton applicator. This freezes the skin, causing it to make less melanin.
  • Glutathione injections or IV treatment: given by injection or intravenous therapy, glutathione made in the lab is used to lighten skin. This antioxidant keeps melanin from getting produced.
  • Skin bleaching: creams, masks, and many other products that have ingredients like Tretinoin, Mercury and Hydroquinone can make the skin lighter when applied regularly. Their actions are dependent on the control of melanin.

Many people have issues with unnatural ways to get lighter skin, though. Some of them experience side effects that bring in more health problems. Others just cannot afford a bottle of a certain product, or a session using a special procedure.

Both ablative and nonablative lasers can have a profound effect on melisma. However, the results are not always consistent, and problems have been reported (such as hypo- or hyperpigmentation). Laser treatments of this kind are more likely to result in problems for those with darker skin tones. Another alternative to laser treatment is cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen.

Controlled destruction of skin cells causes the skin to naturally regenerate itself. Excess melanin comes to the surface and peels off in a few days. This is particularly useful in sensitive areas like the genitals where laser treatment could leave a scar. Efficacy of the treatment depends on the depth of the pigment. Freckles in any part of the body can be treated the same way. There is evidence to suggest that some types of skin-whitening products use active ingredients (such as mercurous chloride) and hydroquinone which can be harmful.

Hydroquinone had been banned in Europe. However, it is now available again but only when prescribed by a medical doctor. This is also the case in many other countries, where hydroquinone can only be prescribed by a doctor for certain skin conditions.

Advice:

There is a growing market in skin lightening products that are toxin-free. However, they are more costly due to their expensive ingredients. Japan and the Pacific are big markets for high quality skin lightening products imported from Europe.

The second way: Fresh lemon

Fresh lemonCut a lemon in half, using only one half and saving the other. Be sure to put the unused half in a cool area, such as the refrigerator. Squeeze the lemon juice into a bowl. Poke small but deep holes in the lemon half with a knife. This will make it easier to squeeze the juice from it. Use a cotton ball to soak up the lemon juice, rub the lemon juice onto the area you wish to lighten. This could be your face, neck, or anywhere else you wish to lighten.

Avoid getting the lemon juice in your eyes. Leave for about fifteen or twenty minutes before washing it off. Use warm water to rinse, and always apply moisturizer after the lemon juice mixture. Repeat this two or three times per week. Applying more than once per day is not recommended. If you feel that the lemon juice is too harsh on your skin, try diluting it to half strength with water before applying. Be aware that Lemon and other citrus juices can result in irritation or burning, and should be used only with care. Do not apply lemon juice to your face and go out in the sun. Wash any juice off promptly, and before you go outside.

A lemon mask will let the acidic part of the lemon slowly seep into pores and gradually change the complexion of the skin. For a skin-lightening mask, mix together one tablespoon of lemon juice, one tablespoon of tomato juice, one tablespoon of cucumber juice, and one tablespoon of sandalwood paste into a paste. Apply to skin and let sit for about twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water and moisturize. For a skin-lightening mask for dry skin, mix together one tablespoon of powdered milk, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon lemon juice, and two drops of essential oil. Apply to skin and let sit from fifteen to twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water and moisturize. Masks, exfoliants and peels should be used sparingly, once or twice a week. Too much contact with skin-drying agents can cause excessive dryness or irritation.

For a lemon exfoliant, mix together two tablespoons of brown sugar, one egg white, and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Massage exfoliant into skin using gentle circular motions. Gently scrub or let rest for ten or fifteen minutes, rinse with warm water, and moisturize.

Advice:

A lemon exfoliant will help lighten skin by using the natural lightening components of citric acid, as well as by sloughing off the top layer of dead skin cells, or epidermis.
