Many people desire to get fairer skin because of many reasons. In fact, a darker skin tone sometimes makes you look patchy and blemished as it has an increased amount of Melanin. Even though, there are no special items can help your skin immune from melanin, there are tips on how to get lighter skin naturally at home in a month with foods and natural masks.
Your skin shows how you pamper or tire out your body. In fact, your skin displays how good your health is, among other things. When you want to lighten the shade of your skin, it helps to find out what the culprits are first.
The usual causes of dark-colored skin are the following:
- Genes and race: people with Asian, African or Latin roots by nature have more melanin in their skin. Melanin is the pigment that causes the brown, dark brown or black color of the skin. It also keeps you from getting skin cancer.
- Too much exposure to the sun: this is one of the major reasons why the skin color becomes darker. The sun triggers the body to produce more melanin so that it can combat the UV rays.
- Diseases or disorders: there are people who suffer from disorders like hyperpigmentation. Some people have ash-colored skin due to kidney problems.
- The first way: Medical ways
- The second way: Fresh lemon
- The third way: Coconut water and oil
- The fourth way: Aloe vera
- The fifth way: Turmeric
- The sixth way: Diet and water consumption
- The seventh way: Lightening cream
The first way: Medical ways
All medical ways:
- Laser treatments. Using a laser machine triggers the skin to peel off and reveal the lighter layer.
- Cryotherapy. Substances like liquid nitrogen is applied on the skin through a spray of a cotton applicator. This freezes the skin, causing it to make less melanin.
- Glutathione injections or IV treatment: given by injection or intravenous therapy, glutathione made in the lab is used to lighten skin. This antioxidant keeps melanin from getting produced.
- Skin bleaching: creams, masks, and many other products that have ingredients like Tretinoin, Mercury and Hydroquinone can make the skin lighter when applied regularly. Their actions are dependent on the control of melanin.
Many people have issues with unnatural ways to get lighter skin, though. Some of them experience side effects that bring in more health problems. Others just cannot afford a bottle of a certain product, or a session using a special procedure.
Both ablative and nonablative lasers can have a profound effect on melisma. However, the results are not always consistent, and problems have been reported (such as hypo- or hyperpigmentation). Laser treatments of this kind are more likely to result in problems for those with darker skin tones. Another alternative to laser treatment is cryosurgery using liquid nitrogen.
Controlled destruction of skin cells causes the skin to naturally regenerate itself. Excess melanin comes to the surface and peels off in a few days. This is particularly useful in sensitive areas like the genitals where laser treatment could leave a scar. Efficacy of the treatment depends on the depth of the pigment. Freckles in any part of the body can be treated the same way. There is evidence to suggest that some types of skin-whitening products use active ingredients (such as mercurous chloride) and hydroquinone which can be harmful.
Hydroquinone had been banned in Europe. However, it is now available again but only when prescribed by a medical doctor. This is also the case in many other countries, where hydroquinone can only be prescribed by a doctor for certain skin conditions.
There is a growing market in skin lightening products that are toxin-free. However, they are more costly due to their expensive ingredients. Japan and the Pacific are big markets for high quality skin lightening products imported from Europe.
The second way: Fresh lemon
Cut a lemon in half, using only one half and saving the other. Be sure to put the unused half in a cool area, such as the refrigerator. Squeeze the lemon juice into a bowl. Poke small but deep holes in the lemon half with a knife. This will make it easier to squeeze the juice from it. Use a cotton ball to soak up the lemon juice, rub the lemon juice onto the area you wish to lighten. This could be your face, neck, or anywhere else you wish to lighten.
Avoid getting the lemon juice in your eyes. Leave for about fifteen or twenty minutes before washing it off. Use warm water to rinse, and always apply moisturizer after the lemon juice mixture. Repeat this two or three times per week. Applying more than once per day is not recommended. If you feel that the lemon juice is too harsh on your skin, try diluting it to half strength with water before applying. Be aware that Lemon and other citrus juices can result in irritation or burning, and should be used only with care. Do not apply lemon juice to your face and go out in the sun. Wash any juice off promptly, and before you go outside.
A lemon mask will let the acidic part of the lemon slowly seep into pores and gradually change the complexion of the skin. For a skin-lightening mask, mix together one tablespoon of lemon juice, one tablespoon of tomato juice, one tablespoon of cucumber juice, and one tablespoon of sandalwood paste into a paste. Apply to skin and let sit for about twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water and moisturize. For a skin-lightening mask for dry skin, mix together one tablespoon of powdered milk, one tablespoon of honey, one teaspoon lemon juice, and two drops of essential oil. Apply to skin and let sit from fifteen to twenty minutes. Rinse with warm water and moisturize. Masks, exfoliants and peels should be used sparingly, once or twice a week. Too much contact with skin-drying agents can cause excessive dryness or irritation.
For a lemon exfoliant, mix together two tablespoons of brown sugar, one egg white, and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Massage exfoliant into skin using gentle circular motions. Gently scrub or let rest for ten or fifteen minutes, rinse with warm water, and moisturize.
A lemon exfoliant will help lighten skin by using the natural lightening components of citric acid, as well as by sloughing off the top layer of dead skin cells, or epidermis.
The third way: Coconut water and oil
Coconut water is said to lighten the skin, while also leaving it soft and supple. Try dipping a cotton ball in the coconut water, then wipe the liquid over your face, or any other area you wish to lighten. No need to rinse off. You can also try drinking coconut water to hydrate skin from the inside out.
Coconut water is a great source of essential minerals and is also low in calories. Coconut oil is not only used by housewives as a healthy food, it is also used to give your skin a wealth. How to get lighter skin with coconut oil? Just wash your face, dry it with soft towel, then dip a cotton ball in the coconut water and apply it into your neck and face. Especially, you do not need to rinse off when using coconut oil.
As usual, you can add coconut oil into your diet to get the best effects.
The fourth way: Aloe vera
The sap of the aloe vera plant is a very soothing natural substance, which helps to heal burns and other skin wounds. It is also very moisturizing and encourages skin rejuvenation – which can help to fade any dark patches and lighten skin.
Break off the leaf of an aloe vera plant (available in plant nurseries) and rub the gel-like sap all over the area you wish to lighten.
Aloe vera is good for your skin, so you can use it as often as you like with no fear of side effects.
The fifth way: Turmeric
Turmeric is a spice that’s popular in Indian cooking. It has been found that turmeric inhibits melanin production (the pigment responsible for darkening skin) and can help suntanned skin go back to its original color.
To use, make a mask containing half a teaspoon of turmeric, two teaspoons of lemon juice and two teaspoons of cucumber juice and spread it on the area you wish to lighten. Let it sit for fifteen minutes before rinsing off.
The turmeric may stain your skin slightly yellow, but don’t worry, it will soon fade away. You can also take turmeric internally by using it in your cooking.
The sixth way: Diet and water consumption
A balanced diet that can boost the skin texture will lead to blemish-free and brighter skin. The following kinds of food will help you protect your skin from the negative effects of the sun, fade skin tags, and whiten your skin gradually. Maintaining a good diet is the most important thing that you should do when trying to whiten skin. This is because a good, balanced diet offers your skin a healthy glow.
For good, you should remove processed products from your daily meals because the altered ingredients they contain can lead to redness and blemishes. A lot of people choose to eat natural-whole and organic foods that include low sugar and high fiber to avoid developing dark skin. Whether or not you want to drink water, you should always remember that people need to drink at least eight glasses of water (equivalent to about 1.5 liters) a day. This simple routine will definitely help you push unwanted urea out of your body system. This act will help improve your blood circulation and the good effects it brings will be showed right on your skin surface.
For better result, you can add a slice of lime or lemon into your glass of water to give your body more vitamin C and good acid. Isoflavone contained in soybean is a kind of phytoestrogen, which can implement a part of the female hormones function to help you resist aging. One more thing, isoflavone also has the ability to fight against oxidation, so you should take it as an essential food if you are a woman to maintain the skin delicate and lustrous.
Products made from soybean, such as tofu and soy-bean milk are the great choices for you. You should consume them as a healthy dessert after a meal. Vegetables and dark green leafy vegetables, and red, yellow fruits usually have a large number of phytochemicals such as carotenes, which can help you anti-oxidation, prevent aging, and enhance your skin resistance.
These kinds of food includes a large number of carotenes:
- red and yellow tomato,
- sweet potato,
- water spinach.
You should eat these foods regularly to add more vitamins and minerals that are good for skin and your body.
The seventh way: Lightening cream
Get your hands on an over-the-counter cream containing kojic acid, glycolic acid, alpha hydroxy acids, vitamin C or arbutin (also known as bearberry extract), all of which are effective skin lightening ingredients.
Alternatively, get a dermatologist to prescribe a stronger skin lightening cream containing retinoids (acidic form of vitamin A) or an ingredient called hydroquinone. All of these skin lightening products work by reducing melanin, a colored pigment produced by specialized cells called melanocytes. Skin lightening creams do not come without risks.
Much of what you put on your skin gets absorbed into your bloodstream, and some cream manufactured in Asia but sold in America contain mercury, which can lead to mercury poisoning. Prolonged use of skin lightening products can lead to premature aging of skin because of increased sensitivity to UVA/UVB rays.
Use of skin lightening products can lead to various forms of skin cancer also due to the reason above. Steroids in some skin lightening products can increase the chance of infection and increase the likelihood of acne.
Hydroquinone may cause permanent skin discoloration and known if taken by mouth is known to cause cancer. Many natural bleaching agents, can lead to allergy or irritation.
